Haiti Mission Trip Update

10.21.19 | Missions & Outreach | by Keith Bierley

Since 2012, Keller UMC has sent multiple mission teams to Haiti to serve in response to the devastation caused by the earthquake in January 2010. Our initial involvement focused on reconstruction projects coordinated through The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) the Methodist Church of Haiti. When it became clear that there was a need for clean water in areas that lacked this vital resource, our focus changed to distributing water filters and educating residents about how to properly use them. We have developed  a strong relationship with the Methodist Church in Mellier, a village about 90 minutes west of Port au Prince.  Our church has distributed over 1,000 water filters to homes, churches, schools and orphanages throughout this village.  Plans were put into place to travel to Haiti again this October. Unfortunately, we have had to make the decision to cancel this trip due to the current political volatility in the country and a desire to keep our team safe. Please keep the Haitian people in your prayers as the demonstrations in Haiti have caused food, water, and gas shortages. Our hope is for our team to go to Haiti and serve again in 2020.
