The average salary in Belize in $10,000 US. The population is around 400,000 and half live in poverty. While the government runs the health care system, and private health care is available, the level of services we use do not exist there. Vision care is one of the areas most lacking. There are very few optometrists and ophthalmologists in the country and purchasing glasses is very expensive. Keller UMC teams up with St. Luke Methodist Church in Belize to help provide eye screenings to the community. No experience is necessary to join the team, we will train you. The services non-clinical members provide include: pre-screening, glasses dispensing, fitting, cleaning and orientation, and glasses case/sun glass distribution. Cost includes airfare, lodging, transportation and food. $900 non-refundable deposit due by April 1 with Mission Trip Application. remaining balance of $800 due by May 1 with additional international trip forms.
