Labor Day, September 6, 2010

Did you know the first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated
on September 5, 1882 in New York City?

The church offices will be closed Monday, September 6th in observance of
Labor Day.

First Connections offers a brief United Methodist history, information about the history of this church, introduces the staff, and looks at the many ministry opportunities and ways to get connected. We will meet on September 12th in room 207 of the Family Life Center from 11:AM - 12:30 PM. All visitors and new members are invited.

fun, food and fellowship!

ROMEOS (retired older men eating out) meet at 8:00 A.M. each Tuesday morning at Kassandra’s Mexican Kitchen, 813 Keller Parkway, for a brief devotional, breakfast, and some great conversation.

Men’s Breakfast group meets at 6:30 A.M each Thursday morning at the church in Room #110 for breakfast and Bible discussion. Begin you day with a good breakfast and some great discussion.

There is still time to join us for the Men’s Disciple Bible Study led by Richard Colvin. We will meet on Monday evenings at 6:30 PM. Each weekly session will last two hours. Sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board just outside the church office. For additional information, please talk with Richard, Pastor Robin, or Pastor Tom. This is a great opportunity for moving deeper into God’s Word and growing spiritually.

Our Men’s softball team closed out its summer season in style by going 2-0 on the final weekend of play, including an extra-innings thriller! Now that the summer season is over we are looking to fill out the roster for the fall season. Do you love to play basketball, but don’t have a place to play or a group to play with? Come and join us in the FLC on Sunday nights at 7:00 p.m. for fun and fellowship as we join with men from throughout our community for games of 5 on 5 pick-up basketball. CHILDREN'S NEWS & EVENTS

Confirmation Begins!!
This nine month program designed for sixth graders takes place Sundays during 9:30 and 11:00 Sunday School. Students explore not only life as a Christian, but also about what it means to be a United Methodist and to make a commitment to the church. Students are able to participate in a variety of activities which help them build relationships with one another, carry their learning beyond the walls of the church through special mission projects, and studies designed to support and stretch them in their faith journey. If you have not already signed up and are interested in participating please contact Kristin Springer in the church office.

5th and 6th Grade Fellowship Duct Tape Games
Join us Sunday, September 12th for fun and fellowship! We will meet from 5:00-6:30 in the youth house. Bring a friend and $1 for snack supper. Sign up in the church office by Sunday, September 5th.

YOUTH NEWS YOU CAN USE

NEW B.A.S.I.C. TIME
Starting September 12th B.A.S.I.C. will be extended by 30 minutes. Our new time will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Please Note: Due to the Labor Day holiday, there will be no B.A.S.I.C. Sunday, September 5th.

S.A.G.E.S. LUNCHEON
The S.A.G.E.S (Senior Adults Growing, Exploring, Serving) will meet on Sunday, September 12 in the Family Life Center at 12:00 for lunch and entertainment. The "Late For Supper" Band will provide a program of gospel music. All persons 55 and older are invited. A $5 donation is suggested to help cover food costs. Please bring a personal hygiene item (toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving cream, etc.) for the Community Storehouse.

UMW BATTLES KILLER DISEASE
All members of United Methodist Women and others who are interested will meet for food, fellowship, and education on Thursday, September 16 at 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hallelujah Center. Members will bring a covered dish to share. Eve Hamilton of the Conference Outreach Council will speak about the worldwide campaign to end malaria and how we can help. Nursery is provided.
